Our second and final print competition of the year will take place April 9, 2012, not April 16 as previously communicated. That is in less than 2 weeks! Here are the details:
Date: April 9, 2012
Time: 7:00-8:30 pm. Doors open 6:30 pm
Place: Salt Lake Main Library, 210 E. 400 S., Salt Lake City
Cost: Print competition is free to print society paid members (dues are $25/year). Participants may join the Print Society by paying dues at the door. Dues cover our fiscal year from September 1 through August 31, so new members joining on April 9 will need to renew next September.
Print Competition Rules:
Quantity: Bring 1-3 prints, any photo-based medium, any subject.
Print Recognition: There will be no 1st, 2nd, etc., designations. Your award will be having your print accepted.
Mount: Prints must be ready to hang with an artist-installed hanging wire adequate to support the framed print’s weight. Frames, canvas, or flush mounts are acceptable as long as they have an appropriate hanging wire. The prints will hung by Ed Hansen, Print Society Director of Exhibitions, as assisted by volunteering club members. Winners will be expected to assist, if possible. Prints deemed to have inadequate wire or wire support at time of hanging will not be exhibited, even if selected for exhibit.
Print Size: Maximum frame size: 24x30. Most pictures will be hung on walls above tables and booths. Larger prints would be too close to tables.
Print info: Please title your prints and specify size and price or NFS (not for sale). You may attach the title, size, and price on a sticky note to the front of the frame or on a non-attached slip of paper. This information will be used to label prints in the actual exhibition. Please obscure your name or signature from the front of the print until after judging. You will also include the same information on separate sign-in sheet number that will be available at the night of the competition.
Delivery: Winning prints will be collected by Ed Hansen at the end of the night (April 9) and kept until installation of the prints that will probably occur the following week. Winning prints will not be returned until after the end of the exhibit.
Number of Prints Accepted: Up to 20 prints deemed by the judge to be exhibit-worth will be accepted for the exhibit.
Digital image: Digital images of the artwork accepted for exhibition will be posted on line for public viewing and sale. The photographer must provide a digital file to be included on-line. Winning images may be uploaded via Dropbox software and will be posted on a new gallery on the club smugmug site at gallery.slprintsociety.org.
Pricing: Designate the sale price for your work or designate it NFS (not for sale).
Exhibit Space: Al Fornos Restaurant, 239 S. 500 E., Salt Lake City, UT 841O2
Exhibit Duration: April-June, 2012. If the restaurant owner requests some or all prints remain longer, the selected photographers will be given this option.
Smugmug/Dropbox Demonstration
While print judging is taking place on April 9, I will demonstrate the club Smugmug site and announce participation rules. I will also demonstrate use of Dropbox software for uploading files.

The Print Society is co-sponsoring with Sohm Photografx a photography-oriented tour of Israel and Petra in April, 2013, with stops in Galilee, Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, and Petra and everything in between. We will explore Roman seaports, wander through crusader ramparts, descend into underground tunnels, climb Herod’s desert fortress of Masada, enter Petra on horseback, and swim in three seas.
